Maria Menounos
As she was caring for her mother who suffers from stage 4 cancer of the brain, Maria realized she was in the midst of the health challenges on her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. Menounos tells PEOPLE that she had been suffering from headaches and lightheadedness from February 2014. My speech was becoming difficult to understand, and I also had difficulty getting the teleprompter to understand. An MRI revealed Menounos to be suffering from a massive meningioma brain tumor that had grown up to the size of a golfball. It was pressing her facial nerves. Menounos agreed to an appointment to see doctor. Keith L. Black her mother's neurosurgeon , and scheduled surgery for June 8. Menounos is now 39 years old. The doctor told her that, "I am 98 percent certain it is benign, however, we won't know until we get into there," During the complex surgery, lasting about 7 hours, Dr. Black was able to get rid of 99.9 percent of the tumor. The result was benign. According to Dr. Black, there is 7 percent likelihood that the cancer will come back. These odds are my best choice. Menounos, who was admitted to hospital for 6 days, is now at home and is spending her recovering.
